Do you answer the call when an unknown number pops up on your screen? It could be a friend calling from an unknown phone. Or it could be a sales call or even a scam. If you would like to find out who is calling you before you answer, read our guide below on how to check an unknown phone number.
A quick search on the internet will bring up a variety of websites where users warn each other about suspicious phone numbers. This can be a useful first port of call when trying to find out if it’s safe to call the number back. However, be aware that the comments on which numbers are legitimate are sometimes contradictory.
Truecaller is a well-known spam-blocking and caller-ID app. You can download it onto your phone or you can log into the website to check the directory of numbers. All you need to log into the website is a Google account. After logging in you can enter the telephone number that you want to find out more about. Truecaller will give you the name and surname (or pseudonym) of the person that was calling.
Sync.ME is another spam-blocker and caller ID app. By downloading the app, unknown callers will be identified to you with their full name and photo.
You can download the apps for Sync.ME and Truecaller for Apple smartphones, Android phones, or Windows mobile systems. Be aware that downloading these apps will take up additional memory. To give you extra storage space, buy a memory card.
